Αντώνης Στοαντζίκης BIO

Adonis Stoantzikis (born 1984, Athens, Greece) earned his BFA (Integrated Master) in painting from the Athens School of Fine Arts in 2011. His thesis was awarded the B&M Theocharakis Foundation Award in 2013, which enabled him to pursue a Master's Degree in painting in the Netherlands with the support of an I.K.Y. Foundation scholarship. As part of an exchange program in 2014, he studied at Hunter College in New York. Recently, he completed his PhD at the University of West Attica, funded by an ELKE scholarship. Since 2010, Stoantzikis has exhibited his work internationally in various institutions and galleries, including BBA Gallery in Berlin, Galerie Bart in Amsterdam, KunstRAI Amsterdam, Laden für Nicht in Leipzig, the Miniature Museum in Amsterdam, and Hydra School Projects in Greece. He currently teaches at the Athens School of Fine Arts as an adjunct lecturer.

Initially incorporating elements of landscape painting early in his career, Stoantzikis shifted toward abstract work during the pandemic. In his recent series, the artist transforms his exploration of textures into captivating sculptures, using polymer clay and glass to create tactile patterns. These abstract creations, which function as post-human fossils, involve layering various non-representational materials, revealing a gradual and mysterious transformation of substance. The details and emerging patterns foster a compelling ambiguity between illusion and reality, navigating the interplay of presence and absence, the visible and the invisible. This dynamic interaction evokes a sense of both materiality and emptiness within the artworks.
